THERAPY
Private Psychotherapy & Therapeutic Coaching

Therapy doesn't have to begin with a crisis.
Sometimes you know exactly what’s wrong. Sometimes you just feel like something isn’t right.
Maybe therapy has always seemed like something other people do, yet lately you’ve felt stuck, anxious or low. You may be grieving, exhausted or overwhelmed, or finding that relationships, work, identity or burnout have become increasingly difficult to manage on your own.
Maybe there’s something current to address, something that happened a long time ago, or a pattern of behaviour that you recognise in yourself, want to change, and yet somehow continue to repeat anyway. Or you might have built a life that looks great from the outside, but doesn't necessarily feel that way to live inside it.
Therapy gives you a private space to be curious about all these things and so much more.
I work collaboratively and actively, so I won't just sit silently in a chair, occasionally asking how something makes you feel. We'll look at what's happening for you now, what came before, and what you'd like to be different going forward. We'll explore the relationships, experiences and ways of coping that have shaped you over the years, and we’ll address whether all of them are still working for you.
Therapy gives you a chance to figure out what belongs to the past, what needs attention in the present, and what you might want to carry differently into the future.
The first step is to book a free 15-minute online session to discuss your needs.

People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes something has happened – a loss, a relationship ending, a traumatic event, workplace problems, a period of anxiety or depression, a crisis of identity, or simply reaching a point where carrying on as usual no longer feels like a particularly good plan.
Other times, there isn't one obvious reason. You might feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or find yourself repeating the same patterns in relationships, work or life without really understanding why.
People also return to therapy after months, or even years away, because life has shifted, something new has happened, or there's simply more they want to understand.
Whatever brings you here, therapy gives us a private space to slow things down and pay attention to what's actually going on for you.
You don't need to prepare for a session or know what you're supposed to talk about. You can bring whatever is on your mind that day and we will work from there. Sometimes that will mean looking at what's happening in your life right now. Sometimes we'll find ourselves talking about relationships, childhood, family, loss, identity or experiences from much further back.
Over time, we can begin to notice connections: why certain situations affect you so strongly, where particular beliefs about yourself may have come from, why familiar patterns keep repeating, and what you might want to do differently.
If you've been in therapy before, we don't need to start again from the beginning. We can talk about what was previously useful, what wasn't, where you left off, and what feels important now.
There isn't a correct way to do therapy. You don't have to be articulate, endlessly introspective or particularly good at talking about your feelings.
You just have to turn up, and we'll go from there.
A standard 50-minute session, either online or at my London or Bath practice, is £100. Outcall sessions begin at £250, with any travel costs or additional expenses agreed in advance. Concessions are occasionally available.

Sometimes you don't need to spend a great deal of time understanding the past - you have a reasonably good idea of what's going on inside yourself - the question is what to do next.
Therapeutic coaching is a more focused, goal-oriented way of us working together. You might be facing a particular decision, trying to make a change, dealing with a difficult period at work, rebuilding after burnout, or finding that something you genuinely want to do keeps getting derailed by procrastination, anxiety, self-doubt or familiar habits.
You might know where you'd like to get to, but have no idea how to get there. Or you might simply know that something in your life needs to change.
We’ll start by getting clear about what you're trying to achieve, and what might be standing in the way. From there, we can turn something that feels vague, overwhelming or impossible into smaller, more manageable and focused actions.
The work is practical, but it isn't simply about setting targets and holding you accountable. We will also pay attention to what’s happening underneath those targets and goals, and what feelings might be coming up for you as there’s movement in your life.
You might decide that you want to change career, for example, while another part of you is terrified of failing. You might want better boundaries but find yourself repeatedly saying yes. You might be successful at what you do but struggle to enjoy it, or keep moving the goalposts every time you achieve something.
Those contradictions are often useful.
Therapeutic coaching gives us room to explore them while keeping sight of what you actually want to change. We can identify patterns, test assumptions, work through obstacles and agree practical steps between sessions when that's useful.
Compared with psychotherapy, the work tends to be more structured and more concerned with movement towards a particular goal. But it still leaves room for complexity; if something from your past is affecting what you're trying to do now, we don't have to pretend it isn't there. We can address it together.
The aim isn't to simply turn you into a relentlessly productive version of yourself. It's to help you work out where you want to go, what's getting in the way, and what might actually help you to move forward.
A standard 50-minute session, either online or at my London or Bath practice, is £100. Outcall sessions begin at £250, with any travel costs or additional expenses agreed in advance. Concessions are occasionally available.

Working in the creative industries can be exciting, rewarding and deeply fulfilling. It can also be uncertain, demanding and surprisingly isolating.
I work with people across music, film, television, advertising, art and digital media - including artists and performers, directors and creatives, producers and managers, content creators, executives, production teams and crew.
The challenges that bring creative people to therapy are often the same ones that exist outside the industry: anxiety, depression, relationships, addiction, grief, low self-esteem, questions of identity or simply feeling that something isn’t right. But creative careers can add their own particular and unique pressures.
Your sense of self may become closely tied to your work or success. Long shoots, touring and intense production schedules can make relationships and ordinary life difficult to maintain. Freelance careers can move between periods of overwhelming work and uncomfortable uncertainty. Success itself can bring expectation, scrutiny, loss of privacy or difficulty knowing who to trust.
And when a tour, production, campaign or project suddenly ends, the transition back into everyday life can sometimes be much harder than expected. After months of intensity and purpose, the quiet can feel strangely empty and isolating.
Having spent much of my own career working in the creative industries, you won't need to start our sessions together by explaining how that world works.
Therapy offers a confidential space away from the expectations of work, colleagues, audiences and the people who depend on you. Somewhere you can speak openly about what is happening (professionally or personally) and begin to understand what you need.
I work in person in London and Bath and Online with clients across the UK and internationally. I also see clients at mutually agreed-upon locations including on set, on tour, studios, locations, hotels, and private residences - please get in touch for further details.

ABOUT ME
I'm Tim Mattia, a BACP-registered therapist working with adult clients online across the UK and internationally, and in person in London and Bath.
I offer a warm, grounded and straightforward approach. Working integratively, I draw particularly on person-centred and psychodynamic theory, alongside therapeutic coaching where it’s appropriate.
Together, we can look at what is happening in your life now while exploring the experiences, relationships and patterns that shape how you think, feel and relate to yourself, other people, and the world around you.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than two decades working in the creative industries, which has given me particular insight into the pressures of demanding careers. I continue to work with people from music, film, television and the wider creative industries, alongside clients from all walks of life. My therapy and coaching clients all come to me from a wide range of backgrounds, and each of them faces their own unique and diverse challenges.
Therapy with me isn't about being told what to do. It's a collaborative conversation, somewhere you can talk openly, understand yourself more clearly, and work out what you might want to change moving forward.
